Dim the lights script - jQuery

Another useful for script for somebody!
This makes the most of flash's WMODE and the jQuery library to create a sexy "turning the lights off" effect.
When the "WMODE" of a flash object is set to "window" (or maybe "opaque") the flash object will sit above every other element on a page. Sometimes this is annoying... but sometimes we can use it to our advantage!

Lightbox script with jQuery

I've been working on an app lately that uses some pretty hot jQuery lightboxes...
I thought I'd post the code as well as a link to a demo page. They are pretty lightweight and the fade effect is pretty hot.
You'll need to download a copy of the jQuery library.
Would love to know what you think.
Restoring MySQL database from SSH

Wow! I have had a RIDICULOUS last two days...
I can't go into much detail but, we had a serious issue with a couple of MySQL databases... which meant that we had to restore from backups!
It's been quite stressful for me because there is a lot at stake. I wasn't involved in the design or build of these scripts so I've literally been thrown in the deep end this time and had to learn a LOT very quickly.
Side Note to Coders: Comment your code and write documentation! A little documentation would have gone a really long way this week.

As my title suggests I have "completed" my first web app! A few months ago I blogged on why I was building it and some of the features it was to contain... check out the old post for more info.
I'm excited to have it "complete"... I say "complete" because it has become quite an addiction to keep adding features and re-styling bits and pieces... I'm hoping that by posting about the experience I will get some closure on this and be free from my addiction!!

How to use an RSS feed

RSS is a way of staying up to date with new content on a website (or websites) without having to keep returning to the web page. I can add feeds from all my favorite sites and add them to a reader... that way I can see all the headlines from all my favorite sites all in one place.
If you haven`t used RSS feeds before this `how to` will lead you through subscribing to a feed.
First of all, you need an RSS reader.
