DotNetNuke Sites - TACF.org

DotNetNuke Logo

The last few months have been completely consumed with weddings and websites. I'm only going to talk about the latter in this blog but take it from me... not always a good mix!

My role at TACF has changed considerably in the last couple of months. I went from Server and Network Technician to web developer! We are trying to release four massive sites all in one go. (tacf.org, ctfministries.com, som.catchthefire.com and revivetv.tv).

I hadn't ever worked with windows servers or ASP before but was confident that I could pick it up enough to build the skins for the sites.

One honeymoon and two and a half months later the sites are coming together! Skinning was a breeze with the help of www.dnncreative.com. The tutorials and forums are an amazing resource that helped everything keep moving when I hit a bump.

I even managed to write a small module or two. The first is a new global menu bar which can be dropped into each skin as a token (brilliant for multiple sites belonging to same family) and the second was a browser check for IE6 and below.

Although I still love Drupal... DNN and ASP has got some great things going for it. Generally, containers are a great idea... although I would love to see more flexibility with making one container float to any position of the page (some cool AJAX would be great!).

Overall I'm pretty happy. I've got some amazing experience and a few new tools on my belt. Once the sites are done I'll add them to the "Portfolio" section of the site.
